On 20 November 2018, the European Parliament adopted its position on the 3rd batch of substances of the CMD and confirmed the European Commission’s proposal with a few additional elements, i.e biomonitoring for Cadmium.
Similarly, on 06 December 2018, the Council of the European Union adopted its General Approach endorsing the European Commission’s proposal and, in addition, removing reference to beryllium sensitisation, not an adverse effect of exposure to beryllium, and to the proposed notations.
Interinstitutional discussions are likely to begin in January and BeST will continue to advocate for an OEL that is protective of workers as well as feasible and will support the Council’s proposals concerning beryllium.
